Breaking the Ice
Moving some place new is always hard. You are forced to break habits and establish new routines. You have a whole slew of new people to meet and names to remember. This is the reality of the military. As difficult as starting fresh can be one of the things that make new starts easier are relationships with people you connect with. You may not always have tons of things in common but making relationships with people that are different from you expose you to ideas and experiences that you may end up liking. Here are some questions you can try out the next time you have to go through a check in process. Questions that help go beyond, “how are you doing” or “Wassup?”
1. What do you do when you’re not working?
2. Did you choose your profession or did it choose you?
3. What would you do if you won the lottery?
4. What is your favorite way to relax?
5. What is your favorite book to read? – or – What is your favorite song or favorite movie?
6. What makes you laugh the most?
7. What is your favorite holiday?
8. What was the last book you read/movie you saw?
